Memory Verse

“You ask God and yet fail to receive, because you ask with wrong purpose and evil, selfish motives. Your intention is [when you get what you desire] to spend it in sensual pleasures”. – James 4:3 Amplified

Moving Your Mountains

By Pastor Kimberly Lemler

Recently I was watching a television program where the goal was to tear away a part of a mountain so that a road could be built. This mountain was a huge obstacle in the way of the developer’s vision for this area, and so he had to construct a plan in order for that mountain to come down.  He gathered all of the right people and right equipment, and kept on the task until the job was done. End result: The mountain was moved and a new road was set in place!

How many of us have mountains in our lives that need to be moved?  Your mountain may not be a physical mountain, but it may be an illness, a pile of debt, a problem with a relationship, or even a wrong attitude. Whatever mountain you are facing today, know that God gives us a perfect set of instructions that He wants us to follow so that our mountain will be an obstacle no more…

Let’s look at Mark 11:22-25.  “And Jesus answered them, ‘Have faith in God. Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, be taken up and thrown into the sea and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore, I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”

Jesus has laid out some very specific conditions in order for the mountain to be moved.

1.

Have faith in God.  Know that He is willing and able to help. You need to actively live your faith. This is not just lip service. Faith without works is dead. So act on your faith!

2.       Do not doubt. The Bible says that those who doubt are “like the waves of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind and such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.”  Sobering passage of scripture in James 1.

3.       Believe what you say will come to pass.  We can speak forth many idle words from our lips, but we need to actually believe that God is going to bring them to pass and we need to speak what He speaks! Believe it will all of your spirit, soul and body!

4.       Forgive.  Easier said than done, I know. But do it anyway. We are all commanded to forgive those who have hurt us. It releases us from a personal prison and releases the power of God to flow through us.  Helpful hint: Pray for those who have wronged you! Don’t they need His help, just like the rest of us? Try it…it will deflate some of those pent up feelings of anger.

5.

Speak to the mountain. You have to be bold and use your voice and speak with the authority that God gave you. Don’t shrink back and don’t cop out. Come boldly and proclaim His promises!

When Jesus and his disciples were walking past the sycamine tree on the way to the temple, He cursed the fig tree. Nothing happened at that moment that Jesus and the others could visibly see, but the process was put into motion as soon as Jesus released the words, “ Let no one eat fruit from you ever again.“   He took direct authority in the spiritual realm, using His physical voice, to impact something in the natural realm. The next morning they all passed by this tree again and they saw with their eyes the fig tree dried up at the roots. Peter said, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which you cursed has withered away.”

Many times over the years I have applied these principles in my own life and have witnessed miraculous outcomes. When my son was younger, he had an ongoing problem with warts. We tried everything to get rid of them, but to no avail. Then one day as I was driving down the road, the Lord reminded me of these passages and I was almost embarrassed that I had forgotten to use my spiritual authority over the situation. I laid hands on my son, spoke to those growths (our mountain), took my authority, believed and applied my faith, and within a week, all of those warts started disappearing and praise God, they never returned!

I don’t think we fully realize what tremendous power is available to us and if we do, we hesitate to use it, probably because of a dollop of doubt that lies beneath the surface of our faith.  The Bible says that “the same spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells is us quickening our mortal bodies.”  His power is within us, and if we heed His instructions on how to tap into that power, just as He instructed His disciples concerning that fig tree, we can move any obstacle, any hindrance, and any insurmountable problem that qualifies as “our mountain”.

So let’s start moving mountains!!

Prayer: “Father, thank You for illuminating Your instructions to me as I seek Your wisdom concerning my mountains. Teach me Your kingdom ways and help me look past my doubts and to see Your truths through the eyes of faith.  Help me to be the overcomer that You have commanded me to be. Thank you, Lord, that my mountains are going to be removed. In Jesus’ name. Amen!”
